US continues efforts to restrict technology transfer to Russia for weapon development

The Battle for Ukraine: US Takes Steps to Cut off Russian Access to Western Technologies through Sanctions and Corporate Pressure

In an effort to support Ukraine against Russia’s invasion, a group of protesters gathered near the White House in Washington, US. The US has taken steps to prevent American businesses from exporting commodities to foreign parties that may transfer them to Russia for use in the conflict.

A US Commerce Department official announced that letters have been sent to at least 20 corporations, urging them to cease supplying parts that are being used in drones and missiles found in Ukraine. The goal is to hinder Russia’s military efforts by cutting off access to Western technologies.

The US and over 30 other nations have imposed sanctions on Moscow, aimed at limiting Russia’s ability to wage war. However, despite these efforts, American components continue to be discovered in Russian weapons left behind in Ukraine.

In an attempt to further prevent the supply of Russian weapons, Assistant Secretary Matthew Axelrod announced that letters have been sent to more than 20 American companies listing over 600 foreign parties, asking them to halt shipments due to the risk of products ending up in Russia. Senior US officials are also engaging with company leaders to discuss additional measures to prevent their products from being used by Russia.

These actions demonstrate the ongoing efforts of the international community to support Ukraine and limit Russia’s ability to wage war.
