DuPage County Board Adopts Strategic Plan to Guide Legislation for the Next Decade: Emphasizing Community Services and Economic Development

The DuPage County Board has recently adopted a strategic plan that will guide legislation for the next decade. This plan, which was developed over the past 12 months, outlines the goals and aspirations of both the board and the community for the future of DuPage County.

The Strategic Planning Committee, led by board member Sadia Covert, focused on community services and economic development as key areas of emphasis. The committee’s goals include promoting local businesses, workforce development, and creating outreach programs for families, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. DuPage County Board Chair Deborah Conroy emphasized that this plan is crucial in ensuring that the county remains prosperous and thriving for years to come.

The plan’s priorities are not set in stone, and there are no consequences in place for not adhering to them. These priorities include community well-being, fiscal responsibility, a thriving economy, a safe community, environmental stewardship, and mobility. The committee debated the specific language used to convey these priorities during their discussions leading up to approval.

The smaller objectives within this plan have received increased attention from members of the board. For instance, reducing DuPage County’s landfill presence and expanding bike and pedestrian pathways have become more important as recent projects like the Solid Waste Management Plan and DuPage County Trails Plan demonstrate progress in these areas.
