Uncovering the Secrets of Endogenous Retroviruses: A Fascinating Presentation at Fort Hays State University’s Science Café
On Monday, April 29th, Fort Hays State University’s Science Café will feature a presentation on “Endogenous retroviruses: Hidden hitchhikers and how they spread.” Sponsored by FHSU’s Science and Mathematics Education Institute, the event will be held at The Venue in Thirsty’s Brew Pub & Grill.
Leading the discussion on this fascinating topic will be Dr. Eric Gillock, a professor of biological sciences at FHSU. Endogenous retroviruses are genetic parasites that make themselves at home in the genomes of most eukaryotic cells, similar to unwanted house guests. These retroviruses are difficult to remove and can have detrimental effects on their hosts.
