Earth Month Fundraising Campaign Promotes Climate Solutions Focused on Health

Yale Center on Climate Change and Health Launches Earth Month Giving Campaign to Drive Health-Centered Climate Solutions

In April, the Yale Center on Climate Change and Health (YCCCH) launched its Earth Month Giving Campaign to support health-centered climate solutions. This marks the first matching donation effort for YCCCH, which was established in 2015 at the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) with the aim of addressing the negative impacts of climate change through research, education, public health practice, and policy development.

The center’s Earth Month Giving Campaign seeks to raise funds to scale up its human health-focused approach to addressing climate change. The campaign features a matching donation initiative where the first $20,000 in donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a group of anonymous donors who believe in the transformative potential of prioritizing human health in driving climate action. These donors view their contributions as investments in hope for combating climate change.

Dr. Robert Dubrow, MD, a professor of epidemiology and the faculty director of YCCCH, emphasized the importance of protecting human health as a powerful yet underutilized driving force for climate action. He stressed that organizations like YCCCH must continue to prioritize funding for research and social justice initiatives that integrate cutting-edge science with equity concerns to achieve meaningful impact on both global and local levels.

As YCCCH looks forward to its next decade of work, Dr. Dubrow emphasized the importance of continued collaboration with academic, government, and civil society partners to create a stable and safe climate that allows for human health and diverse ecosystems to thrive. One donor highlighted the essential nature of fundraising for organizations like YCCCH and expressed admiration for its growth and impact over the past nine years.

Overall, YCCCH envisions a world where a stable and safe climate allows human health and diverse ecosystems to thrive. By investing in research that integrates cutting-edge science with equity concerns, YCCCH aims to continue making a difference at local, national, and global levels throughout its next decade of work.
