Olkiluoto 3 maintenance faces further delays

Olkiluoto 3 Reactor Maintenance Extended by Six More Days: Technical Issues Cause Delays

The annual maintenance of the Olkiluoto 3 reactor has been extended by six more days, with a current estimated completion date at the beginning of May, according to a recent announcement by the power company TVO. This extension is due to technical issues that have arisen during the maintenance process.

The maintenance of Olkiluoto 3 began on March 2, with an initial plan for it to last 37 days. However, this timeline has been pushed back on four separate occasions now. Delays have been attributed to slower cooling of components, additional technical problems, and more time needed for fuel inspections.

Olkiluoto 3’s annual maintenance is the first of its kind for the reactor, which began full power production in March 2023. The revised completion date for the maintenance is now set for May 4, with work continuing to ensure the reactor is in optimal condition for operation.
