Man detained for alleged involvement in tip jar theft at Miami Beach establishment

Stealer on the Run: Miami Beach Business Owner Speaks Out About Alleged Tip Jar Thief Caught on Surveillance Video

A man accused of stealing money from the tip jar at a Miami Beach business has been arrested, Local 10 News learned Thursday. Jail records show Jeffrey Lewis Scott, 33, was taken into custody Wednesday on a petit theft charge. Police say he’s the man who was captured on surveillance video earlier this week stealing money from the Bagel Time Cafe, located at 3915 Alton Road.

Previously when Bagel Time was in the news, it was for somebody taking down an Israeli flag hanging outside and stomping on it. That happened three times in a matter of months, its owner said. This time, all the thief seemingly wanted on his bagel was someone else’s hard-earned cash. “Smooth as butter,” Bagel Time owner Josh Nodel told Local 10 Tuesday, adding that the crook got away with $200. “He comes inside, comes to the counter, goes to my wife…I guess she was giving him a free bagel.” To add insult to injury, the crook went into the tip jar where they keep large bills.

As of Thursday morning, Scott was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $2,500 bond. Copyright 2024 by WPLG Local10.com – All rights reserved.
