Business owners at Towne West Mall express frustration as power is disconnected for a second time

Power Struggles: Frustration and Instability at Towne West Mall Due to Repeated Outages

The ongoing power outages at Towne West Mall in west Wichita have left business owners frustrated and struggling to keep their businesses afloat. The latest outage, caused by Kohan Retail Investment failing to pay the electricity bill on time, has left vendors in the dark once again.

Jennifer Garrison, owner of Passageways LTD, is one of the many vendors who have been impacted by the power outages. She expressed her frustration with the lack of communication and reliability from the mall management. Garrison mentioned that the outages have caused confusion among customers and disrupted production for vendors like Ken Smith of Steve’s Jams and Jellies.

Smith reported significant losses in product due to the outages, as well as challenges in storing inventory safely without power. Despite the setbacks, both vendors are exploring alternative locations to continue their businesses amidst the uncertainty at Towne West Mall.

While some vendors are considering moving out of the mall, others like Smith are hesitant due to the convenience and affordability of their current spaces. The management has not provided a timeline for when the power will be restored, leaving vendors in limbo.

Anchor stores like JCP, Dick’s, and Dillard’s Clearance Center have maintained power through separate accounts with Evergy. However, Towne West Mall continues to face issues with power outages, causing concern and inconvenience for businesses and customers alike.

The repeated power outages have created a sense of instability within Towne West Mall, making it difficult for business owners to plan for their future. As a result, they may need to reconsider their location or risk losing customers who may choose to shop elsewhere until they can find a more reliable source of power.

Overall, it seems that despite efforts by some anchor stores to maintain stability within Towne West Mall, ongoing issues with power outages continue to plague this shopping center complex.
