Blinken discusses potential US sanctions on ultra-Orthodox battalion with Gallant and Gantz

Navigating Sanctions: Israel’s Netzah Yehuda Battalion Amidst International Controversy

The Israeli Army defended the work of Netzah Yehuda, emphasizing the battalion’s courage and professionalism while adhering to International Law. The IDF stated that they do not recognize the proposed sanctions and will examine the issue once a decision is made by the US. Minister Gallant engaged with military leadership to avoid the sanctions and underscore the importance of supporting IDF operations within International Law.

The Secretary of the United States Department of State, Antony Blinken, spoke with Israeli officials regarding potential sanctions against Netzah Yehuda for alleged crimes against Human Rights in the West Bank. Blinken discussed efforts to protect Israel’s security, negotiate for hostage release, achieve an immediate ceasefire, and increase humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

Gallant highlighted the battalion’s frontline role in combating Hezbollah, terrorist elements in the West Bank, and Hamas in Gaza, emphasizing their dedication and sacrifice. He expressed hope that the US would reconsider imposing sanctions on Netzah Yehuda as targeting a specific unit within the defense system could set a dangerous precedent.

If imposed, the sanctions would prevent members of Netzah Yehuda from receiving military aid or training from the US Army. Blinken identified members of Netzah Yehuda as instigators of violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. Discussions between US and Israeli officials continue as they work to address this situation and uphold shared values of security and justice.
