New York Yankees reveal 26-player roster for MLB Opening Day 2024

Yankees’ 2024 Opening Day: Rebuilding on the Fly with New Roster

As Opening Day of the 2024 season approaches, the New York Yankees are preparing to face off against the Houston Astros. However, key injuries to players like Gerrit Cole, DJ LeMahieu, and Oswald Peraza have forced some changes to the projected 26-man roster. Manager Aaron Boone will rely on a combination of new acquisitions and top performers from spring training to strengthen the bench depth.

In the starting lineup, DJ LeMahieu will be absent due to a foot injury, with Berti stepping in as the third baseman following a trade from the Miami Marlins. The everyday starters remain largely intact, but their performance will be closely monitored as they adjust to their new roles.

On the bench, Wells will serve as the backup catcher behind Trevino, with Cabrera ready to play first base and also fill in as an outfielder if needed. Rortvedt was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays, leaving Wells as the lone backup catcher on the roster.

The rotation will see Gil as the fifth starter in place of Cole’s injured spot. Cortes will take the mound on Opening Day, hoping for a strong performance along with Rodon. The success of this rotation could determine Gil’s future on the team moving forward into next year’s season.

Weaver will begin his season in bullpen position alongside Gil joining starting rotation line up. The Yankees are hoping for a successful start to their reshaped roster and are excited about what this season holds for them.
