WPIAL offices gear up for softball and lacrosse playoff brackets

The WPIAL offices will be buzzing with excitement in the coming days as they prepare for spring bracketology for softball, boys and girls lacrosse playoffs. On Thursday, steering committees will gather to finalize the brackets for the district softball playoffs and lacrosse tournaments. The WPIAL Playoff Pairings Show will air at 2 p.m. Thursday on Trib HSSN, providing a detailed breakdown of the softball playoff brackets.

In softball, several teams are vying for a spot in the postseason. In Section 1-3A, Upper St. Clair has secured a berth but could face stiff competition from Bethel Park and Canon-McMillan if they lose. In Section 2-2A, Derry has an opportunity to make it a four-way tie for second place and clinch a playoff spot with a win on Thursday.

Meanwhile, in boys volleyball, several teams are eyeing section titles with wins on Thursday. North Allegheny and Shaler are tied for first in Section 2-3A, while Penn-Trafford can secure an outright section win with a victory. North Catholic and South Fayette also have the chance to share the title in their respective sections with wins.

On Friday, the brackets for district baseball and boys volleyball playoffs will be released, with the Baseball Playoff Pairing Show airing at noon on Trib HSSN. The WPIAL Class 3A playoff field is almost set, with some possible additions depending on the final night of the regular season.
