Biden criticizes Trump for benefitting from inherited wealth during union speech

President Biden Takes On Trump’s Lifestyle In Pitch To Union Workers For Reelection

During a conference for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, a labor group that has endorsed his bid for reelection, President Biden spoke about his upbringing compared to that of his opponent. He emphasized how some people, like his opponent, believe that inheriting wealth is the best way to get rich, contrasting his own belief that hard work and paying taxes are for everyone, not just the working class. The president used this opportunity to take jabs at Trump’s lifestyle, particularly his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Fla., highlighting the differences between his hometown of Scranton, Pa., and the extravagant lifestyle of the former president.

President Biden has been focusing on rebuilding the coalition that brought him to the White House in 2020. In particular, he has been targeting union workers. In 2016, union households had shifted from blue to red, contributing to Trump’s victory in states like Michigan. However, Biden was able to win back these crucial states in the 2020 election by emphasizing his commitment to their interests and showing support for unions through actions such as joining a picket line to strike with autoworkers last year.

Overall, President Biden is working hard to secure the support of union workers as he campaigns for reelection. His efforts may prove key in determining the outcome of the upcoming election.
