UNC Health and UnitedHealthcare Sign Long-Term Agreement, Securing Continued Care for North Carolina Patients

In recent news, UNC Health has signed a long-term agreement with UnitedHealthcare, ensuring that thousands of North Carolina patients will continue to receive treatment at UNC clinics and hospitals without any disruptions. The previous contract was set to expire on April 1, but the new agreement covers patients under United’s commercial, Individual Exchange, and Medicare Advantage plans.

This new agreement is a big relief for patients who were worried about going out of network or finding new providers for their care. Dr. Matt Ewend, chief clinical officer at UNC Health, stated that this new deal will benefit patients across the state by avoiding increased costs and the stress of having to find new providers. Negotiations between UNC Health and UnitedHealthcare began last year and a new deal was reached this week.

UNC Health is working to communicate this news to patients under UnitedHealthcare to reassure them that their UNC providers will remain the same. This is part of UNC Health’s commitment to providing quality care and maintaining strong relationships with insurance providers for the benefit of their patients. With this long-term contract in place, UNC Health can continue to provide excellent care to its patients while also working towards a better future for healthcare in North Carolina.
