Israel is prepared for a ground assault in Rafah

Israel Prepares for Imminent Operation in Rafah, Amid Opposition from US and Egypt.

Plans for an imminent operation in Rafah, located in the far south of the Gaza Strip, are underway in Israel. According to a senior Israeli security official who spoke to Reuters, the Israeli army is fully prepared to launch the operation and awaits political approval before proceeding.

The ground offensive in Rafah will be carried out in phases, with each area defined. Before advancing into each area, the IDF will inform the population so that civilians can evacuate shelters and homes in time. The armed forces have mobilized two brigades of reservists to return to southern Gaza and continue their mission under the command of the 99th Division.

Despite opposition from US officials who expressed concern about protecting civilians, Israel has approved its latest plan for the Rafah operation. The US government has also expressed opposition without a credible plan to protect civilians. However, Israeli officials are adamant that entering Rafah is necessary to complete their mission and potentially address issues related to hostages.

Three senior Israeli officials recently visited Egypt to discuss the upcoming offensive with key officials from Cairo’s intelligence agency. They discussed concerns about entering Rafah, where many displaced Palestinians reside after fleeing other areas due to bombings. Egypt has warned Israel against entering Rafah due to its potential impact on civilians.

It is not clear what specific actions will be taken during this operation or how long it will last. However, reports indicate that it could take place “very soon.”
