Scholarships for Students Pursuing Mental Health Careers through the Jones Project

Four to Receive New Jones Family Scholarship for Mental Health Professionals in Kansas

The Jones Family Scholarship for future mental health professionals is a new initiative by a Topeka non-profit, The Jones Project, in collaboration with Advisors Excel and The Ellis Foundation. This scholarship aims to support Kansas high school students who are planning to pursue careers in mental health at in-state institutions. Four students will be selected to receive the scholarship, which includes a bonus for those who choose to practice in Kansas after completing their degree.

The Executive Director of The Jones Project, Damon Parker, expressed his enthusiasm for this opportunity to make a positive impact on mental health access in Kansas through the scholarship. He shared that the initial mission of The Jones Project was to address teen mental health issues and through interactions with students, counselors, and community members, he recognized the significant challenge of accessing mental health services in rural areas. Some students have to travel long distances for mental health appointments, highlighting the need for more resources in these areas.

Parker stated that more details about the scholarship will be announced soon as the organization continues to work towards improving mental health services and access in Kansas. This collaboration between The Jones Project, Advisors Excel, and The Ellis Foundation reflects a commitment to supporting future mental health professionals and addressing mental health challenges in the state.
