Cumming to host inaugural Mental Health Summit

Cumming Hosts Inaugural Mental Health Summit to Break Down Barriers and Promote Understanding.

The city of Cumming is set to host its first Mental Health Summit this month, with plans to make it an annual event. In recognition of the importance of mental health awareness, Cumming Mayor Troy Brumbalow intends to declare May as mental health awareness month at an upcoming city council meeting.

The goal of the summit is to break down barriers, promote understanding, and create a supportive environment for conversations about mental health in the community. This year’s summit, which will take place on Monday, May 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Forsyth Conference Center on Ronald Reagan Parkway, is being organized by the Forsyth County Mental Health & Wellness Advocates group.

Among the speakers at the event will be Maureen Bixler, LCSW at Live Life Counseling, former Georgia State Representative Mike Dudgeon, Commissioner Cindy Mills, and a special resident testimony. They will address a range of topics related to mental health in the community, including the challenges faced by youth in schools and the wellness needs of the community as a whole.

The focus of this year’s summit is “Faces of Mental Health,” with organizers aiming to shed light on different aspects of mental health in the community through open discussions and presentations. By bringing together people from all walks of life and engaging in meaningful dialogue around mental health issues, they hope to positively impact well-being in Cumming and encourage open conversations about this important topic.
