West Seattle’s Downtown Area Shutdown due to Fire at South Park Business
The South Park Bridge is currently closed due to a large fire that has occurred in the business building located on the northeast corner of 14th Avenue South and South Cloverdale, the main intersection in downtown South Park. The bridge’s northbound side is also closed as firefighters respond to the incident. Smoke from the fire can be seen on traffic cameras, which point toward the bridge’s south end.
As of 9:22 PM, SFD is still fighting the fire and has detoured southbound traffic off the South Park Bridge onto westbound Dallas. At 9:25 PM, SFD announced that the fire was under control. No injuries have been reported so far.
However, at 9:40 PM, SFD held up southbound traffic on the bridge behind a bus. Cars were turning around and heading back northbound as shown by traffic cameras. At 9:45 PM, SFD declared the fire “tapped” (out), meaning it was extinguished. Some of its units are being dismissed, but it’s unclear how long it will take for traffic to resume normal operations on and around the bridge.
