USCIB Joins Worldwide Enterprise Work on EUCS With out Sovereignty Specifications

WASHINGTON, Could 25, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The United States Council for International Enterprise (USCIB) has joined forces with companies primarily based in the European Union, the United Kingdom and Japan to challenge a statement urging swift and timely adoption of the “EU Cybersecurity Certification Scheme for Cloud Solutions (EUCS)” with no sovereignty specifications. This work was organized by AMCHAM EU.

Also, CCIA, a USCIB member, also issued a equivalent statement co-signed by the U.S. business enterprise neighborhood, which includes USCIB, and shared with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Trade Representative Katherine Tai and Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, in advance of the EU-U.S. Trade and Technologies Council (TTC) meeting taking location in Sweden this weekend.

USCIB recognizes its members’ acute issues that the EUCS unfairly undermines U.S. competitiveness in Europe.

According to USCIB, such restrictive sovereignty restrictions do not add worth to cybersecurity of cloud solutions in the EU. For properly more than a year, several European and international associations, market actors and Member States have continued to publicly express their issues with the lack of progress and the ongoing examination of restrictive sovereignty specifications in the EUCS. In addition, many Member States have proposed option alternatives to finish the stalemate, such as a European evaluation mechanism primarily based on trustworthiness for non-EU cloud providers. Discussion on these proposals could present a robust option that would meet the preferred higher level of cybersecurity specifications, although maintaining the market place open to all cloud providers.

The CCIA letter states that the business enterprise groups have named for removing discriminatory ownership specifications that would protect against American cloud service providers from bidding on public sector and crucial infrastructure cloud contracts across Europe.

Other market issues about the EUCS consist of its restricted transparency and lack of stakeholder engagement, conflicting views of Member States and legal confusion and uncertainty brought on by the interplay with other EU legislation.
