UN Leader Opposes Gaza Strip Protection, Pushes for Two-State Solution

UN Secretary General António Guterres believes that the Gaza Strip should not come under the protection of the UN after the war. Instead, he calls for a transition period to achieve a two-state solution and urges everyone to help in this process. He made these comments at a press conference on Monday, as stated in a UN press release.

In his remarks, Guterres emphasizes the need for a common approach involving all influential players, with different states and international bodies cooperating. He highlights the USA as the most important security guarantor for Israel and emphasizes the crucial role of neighboring and Arab countries for the Palestinians.

Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip in 2007, and Guterres proposes involving them in a transition period to strengthen the Palestinian Self-Government so that it can take over power in Gaza. This, in turn, would allow for the initiation of a two-state solution, with an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel. The UN Secretary General’s remarks reflect a call for collaboration and support from various parties to facilitate a peaceful and stable resolution in the region.
