In a tragic accident that occurred in Kenya, world record holder Kelvin Kiptum passed away at the age of 24. His coach Garvais Hakizimana also lost his life in the same incident. The accident took place in the Kaptagat area along Elgeyo Marakwet road.

Kiptum was known for his incredible athletic achievements, including winning the London Marathon and breaking Eliud Kipchoge’s world record at the Chicago Marathon just last year. He was scheduled to participate in the Rotterdam Marathon in April of this year.

The death of Kelvin Kiptum was widely mourned as an incredible loss to the athletic community and the Kenyan nation. World Athletics president Seb Coe, Kenyan police commander Peter Mulinge, and former Kenyan Prime Minister all expressed condolences and paid tribute to Kiptum.
