Ran Carthon reveals: Calvin Ridley pursuit initially deemed a “pipe dream”

The Surprising Signing of Calvin Ridley by the Titans: A Look into How it Happened

Earlier this month, rumors emerged that wide receiver Calvin Ridley was planning to sign with the Titans, much to the surprise of many. The Jaguars and Patriots were previously thought to be the top contenders for his services. However, General Manager Ran Carthon was taken aback by how things played out, stating that even the Titans hadn’t initially believed they could make a move for Ridley.

Despite budget constraints, Carthon revealed that the team had been working on acquiring Ridley as part of their offseason plan. However, when a couple of Titans players left for other teams in the opening hours of free agency, Carthon and president of football operations Chad Brinker began discussions on making a push for the wide receiver.

After sleeping on it, the team decided to go ahead with the deal the next morning. The swiftness of the agreement was underscored by team owner Amy Adams Strunk calling Carthon to confirm if everything had been finalized while he was on another call with Ridley congratulating him on his new contract.

Carthon attributed the success of getting Ridley to join their roster to strong collaboration within the Titans organization and expressed hope that it would pave the way for a successful season under head coach Brian Callahan’s leadership.
