Lions counter 49ers’ offer sheet for Brock Wright

The Lions Keep Tight End Brock Wright in Fold with Matching Offer Sheet: The High Cost of Retention

The Lions have announced that they will be matching the restricted free agent offer sheet signed by tight end Brock Wright with the 49ers. This decision means that Wright will not have to adjust to a new offensive scheme ahead of the 2024 season, as he will remain on the Lions’ roster. The deal is reportedly for three years and worth $12 million, with $6 million guaranteed. This represents a significant increase from the Lions’ original restricted free agent tender of $2.985 million.

Over the past three seasons, Wright has played in 41 games for the Lions, accumulating 43 catches for 424 yards and seven touchdowns. He will continue to team up with Sam LaPorta as the top tight ends in Tennessee. The Lions’ decision to match the offer sheet reflects their commitment to retaining key players on their roster, even if it means paying a premium price.
