England all-rounder Ben Stokes has revealed that he had planned to reverse his choice to retire from 1-day cricket in the course of the Ashes series. Stokes, who retired from ODIs final year due to his heavy workload, stated that he had ruled out a comeback to divert media interest away from his prospective return. In spite of previously citing a knee injury as the cause for not returning to the ODI squad, Stokes created a beautiful comeback in the third ODI against New Zealand, scoring 182 off 124 balls. He clarified that his prior comments about his knee had been just a tactic to preserve the media guessing. England have agreed to incorporate Stokes as a specialist batter, preferably at quantity 4, which has permitted him to bat with far more freedom.
