Standout Performances: Marion County High School Sports’ Athlete of the Week

As the fall sports season draws to a close, standout student-athletes are taking center stage. Cross country meets have been held, and football is now the last sport in the spotlight. This leaves long distance runners, football players, and exceptional soccer players to shine. Notable athletes include Preston Wright and Tay’juan Leslie-Farmer who excelled in their recent regional semifinal football games, as well as Selvin Banegas Rodas who led Belleview to an undefeated record in soccer.

To celebrate these star athletes, an audience poll has been launched. People are encouraged to vote once per hour for their favorite athlete on social media so that friends and family can join in. The poll closes on Thursday at 2 pm with the results posted Friday morning.

In addition to football and soccer standouts, Marion County playoff teams have also been highlighted. Preston Wright was the top performer in the football category with 4 passing TDs while Selvin Banegas Rodas led the soccer category with 4 goals and 1 assist in just 3 games. Other exceptional athletes from different sports were also recognized such as Hunter Duncan in soccer, Cedric McFadden in cross country, and Gianna Meccia in soccer.

It is clear that these talented student-athletes are making a significant impact on their respective sports and should not be missed in future competitions.
