Shrewsbury Business Gears Up for Weather Impact This Week

Spring Renewal Thrown Off Course: Shrewsbury Faces Another Snowstorm Wednesday

As spring arrives in Shrewsbury, longer days and chirping birds are bringing a sense of renewal to the area. However, meteorologists are predicting that parts of Central Massachusetts will see up to 8 inches of snow as a storm moves in on Wednesday.

At Papa’s Hardware, owner Fred Betti is bracing for the upcoming storm. Although the store has been receiving shipments of spring flowers, Betti knows that they will have to stay inside due to the expected snow. Instead, he is focusing on winter gear like shovels and ice melt, which fortunately are well-stocked.

The National Weather Service forecasts a mix of snow and rain starting Wednesday morning, with Worcester likely seeing 1 to 2 inches of snow by evening. A winter storm watch has been issued for Northern Worcester County from Wednesday morning to Thursday evening, with total snow and sleet accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, potentially up to 8 inches near the New Hampshire border.

Betti has a delivery of cold-tolerant crops coming in on Wednesday, but due to the harsh weather conditions, they will need to be brought inside immediately. While frustrating that it’s still winter weather in the springtime, Betti is determined to be prepared for whatever comes his way on Wednesday. He hopes for nicer weather soon so he can focus more on spring flowers and outdoor activities.
