Great Britain falls to Slovakia with 7-1 defeat in the Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship

Slovakia Leaves Great Britain Feeling Chilled in Latvia with a 7-1 Ice Hockey Win

In the Group B of the Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship, Great Britain suffered a tough 7-1 loss to top seeds Slovakia in Latvia. The game started with Slovakia taking control early on as they scored two quick goals in Riga. However, Katie Marsden managed to give GB hope with a well-placed shot into the bottom corner, leaving the score at 2-1 at the end of the first period.

Despite Marsden’s efforts, Slovakia continued to dominate the game by scoring four more goals in the middle period, followed by another goal in the final minute. Ema Galisova was outstanding for Slovakia as she contributed two goals to their impressive win.

At the end of the match, Marsden was recognized as GB’s player of the game for her determined performance, while Slovakia’s goaltender, Andrea Risianova, received an award for her exceptional saves that helped secure her team’s victory. This loss left Britain five points behind Slovakia after three matches so far: one win and two losses including an overtime loss.

Despite this setback, GB is gearing up for its next match against Slovenia on Friday, April 5th and then against hosts Latvia on Saturday. The top team from this group will be promoted to Division 1 Group A and Great Britain is fighting hard for a spot in the next round.
