Sherman Witnesses Governor Abbott’s Acknowledgment of Economic Gains Achieved during the 88th Legislature

Governor Greg Abbott, along with Representative Reggie Smith and Sherman Mayor David Plyler, attended the 2nd Annual Sherman Mayor’s Economic Roundtable. The Governor commended the achievements made by the 88th Legislature in promoting economic development in Texas. He emphasized that people are drawn to Texas because it offers freedom and opportunities not found elsewhere. Governor Abbott highlighted the importance of freedom from government overreach, high taxes, and burdensome red tape in keeping the Texas economy booming. He mentioned the largest property tax cut in Texas history, which was delivered during the last special session. Additionally, he discussed a new law that will cut regulations hindering businesses operating in multiple cities across the state. The Governor emphasized that businesses, both large and small, will continue to thrive in Texas due to the partnership with the government.

During the discussion, Governor Abbott also recognized the significant role played by local economic development organizations in Texas’ remarkable economy. He specifically mentioned the success of business leaders in Grayson County in supporting business development in the area. The Governor expressed his appreciation for their efforts.

Furthermore, Governor Abbott outlined several pro-business legislative victories signed into law during the 88th Legislative Sessions. These victories included not only the largest property tax cut in Texas history but also the slashing of regulations that hinder businesses operating in multiple cities across the state. In addition, investments were made in infrastructure projects to accommodate the state’s growing population. The Governor also spoke about the importance of supporting more work-based learning opportunities to prepare students for the workforce of the future in Texas.
