Nicole Hernandez, an undergraduate biochemistry student at UF, had the opportunity to virtually shadow health care professionals through the Medi-Gators shadowing program. This experience strengthened her resolve to continue on the pre-med track and develop essential communication skills for success.
Hernandez, who is set to graduate in May 2024 and plans to apply to medical school after taking a gap year, was actively involved in Medi-Gators. She served on the events committee and as a student ambassador, gaining valuable exposure and experiences in the healthcare field. Through this program, Hernandez gained insights into the various career options available in healthcare, which can be challenging to navigate.
The Medi-Gators shadowing program provided Hernandez with a better understanding of the different paths she can take in her pursuit of a medical career. She found it eye-opening to see how teams work together and develop essential communication skills for success. The program also offered mentorship to its members, which helped Hernandez gain valuable guidance and support as she navigates her future career path.
