Samaritan’s Purse commemorates World Water Day

Samaritan’s Purse Engineer Saves Lives with Revolutionary Water Filters

Brent Kejr is an engineer who enjoys building things and finding solutions to problems. Three years ago, he made the decision to return to the United States to work for Samaritan’s Purse, an organization that travels globally to bring clean drinking water to as many people as possible. Samaritan’s Purse uses various technologies and filter systems to provide water in any circumstances, with some filters even being powered by solar panels and left permanently in countries.

In his role as an engineer, Kejr contributes to the design of equipment used worldwide to supply clean drinking water. One of his first deployments was in Haiti after the devastating earthquake. He has also spent time in Ukraine, setting up water systems for emergency field hospitals in different parts of the world. Samaritan’s Purse has mobile units that can be transported anywhere and connected to water sources to filter and make it drinkable. With access to fresh water, one unit can provide clean water for up to 10,000 people daily. Additionally, they have small filters specifically for field hospitals to ensure that patients have clean water for care and surgeries.

According to Kejr, the aim is to prevent disease outbreaks through the provision of safe water. Deputy Director David Phillips emphasizes that water is essential for life, and Samaritan’s Purse must be prepared to act swiftly in any situation. For example, in places like Ukraine where water infrastructure was disrupted by conflict, Samaritan’s Purse drilled wells to access and distribute water throughout the community. The primary objective of the organization is consistent: to supply safe water in response to any disaster because it is a fundamental necessity.
