Safe Levels of Exposure for Brief Periods

Ukraine is planning to repurpose the abandoned Chernobyl nuclear power plant into a one-gigawatt wind farm that can generate clean, renewable energy. Despite concerns about radiation contamination and worker safety, the project has several benefits. The area already has a lot of power plant infrastructure in place, and no residents will be displaced as the radiation zone is essentially a ghost town. Additionally, rehabilitating Chernobyl into a modern power plant has symbolic significance as it provides clean, climate-friendly energy to Kyiv. Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi, Ukraine’s deputy ecology minister, stated that Chernobyl could become a symbol of clean, climate-friendly energy.
