Red Sox vs. Mariners: A Battle of the Power Teams in their Season Opener

The Mariners and Red Sox are set to face off in their season opener at 10:10 p.m. EDT on Thursday, with Brayan Bello of the Red Sox and Luis Castillo of the Mariners taking the mound. The FanDuel Sportsbook MLB line has the Mariners as -176 favorites, while the Red Sox are +147. The over/under for runs is set at 7 1/2.

In terms of performance last season, the Mariners had a record of 88-74 overall and a solid home record of 45-36. They averaged just under 8 hits per game and batted .242 as a team. On the other hand, the Red Sox finished with a mark of 78-84 overall but struggled on the road with a record of 39-42. They hit an impressive average of 3 extra base hits per game, including almost one home run per game.

As for injuries, both teams have some key players out for opening day. For the Mariners, Sam Haggerty is on the 10-Day IL for personal reasons, Bryan Woo is on the 15-Day IL due to elbow inflammation, and Jackson Kowar is out for an elbow injury that landed him on the 60-Day IL. The Red Sox also have Lucas Giolito on their roster due to an elbow issue that forced him to miss time last season and has now landed him on their long list of injured players this year as well.
