Quarterback Trevor Siemian Signs with the Jets and is Added to their Active Roster

The Jets made a major change to their starting quarterback on Monday, replacing Zach Wilson with Tim Boyle. They also announced that Trevor Siemian, who had been on the practice squad since signing with the team, will serve as Boyle’s backup. Siemian was officially signed to the team’s active roster on Tuesday. In addition to these moves, the team added cornerback Craig James to the practice squad.

Siemian has some experience as a starter, having filled in for an injured Sam Darnold in a game for the Jets in 2019. However, he suffered an ankle injury early in that game and missed the rest of the season. Siemian has also had stints with the Bengals, the Bears, and the Saints, starting games for each of those teams. He has a total of 24 games as a starter for the Broncos in 2016 and 2017, showing more experience than Boyle. Despite this, the Jets are choosing to go with the younger Boyle as their starter for the time being.
