North Charleston Sports Complex Unveiled: Elevating Community Wellness and Attracting Regional Tournaments

On Thursday, the city of North Charleston celebrated the grand opening of its new North Charleston Sports Complex, giving community members access to a modern sports facility in their neighborhood. After investing $25 million in the project over a year ago, the city demolished the old Danny Jones Athletic Center to make way for the new complex.

The new sports facility features a 25-meter competitive pool, a multi-use gymnasium for basketball, volleyball, and badminton, as well as outdoor tennis courts, a roller rink, and a playing field. City officials believe that these facilities will elevate North Charleston’s status as a premier destination for sporting events and attract regional and national tournaments that will boost the local economy through sports tourism.

Mayor Reggie Burgess expressed gratitude to the citizens for their support and tax dollars that helped make the new sports facility a reality. He emphasized the city’s commitment to community and wellness, providing residents with comprehensive recreational opportunities to enrich their lives. The complex aims to ensure that North Charleston is a place where community and health are intertwined, offering a wide range of sporting activities for people of all ages.

Visitors were invited to tour the complex on opening day until 7 p.m., with the tennis courts and roller rinks available for use starting from the next day. The full facility officially opens to the public on Monday, offering a wide range of sports and recreational opportunities for North Charleston’s community.

Burgess highlighted how important it is in building young athletes’ minds by drawing from his own experience at the former center in 1970 where he was introduced to various sports that shaped his career.

In summary, North Charleston celebrated its new North Charleston Sports Complex with great enthusiasm on Thursday by inviting visitors to tour it until 7 p.m., while also emphasizing how important it is in building young athletes’ minds by providing them with comprehensive recreational opportunities that promote community and wellness while elevating North Charleston’s status as premier destination for sporting events.
