New College Basketball Crown Tournament from Fox Sports Set to Debut in 2025 as NIT Rival

New College Basketball Crown Tournament Announced: An Alternative to the NCAA Tournament for Non-Qualifying Schools

The 16-team College Basketball Crown tournament, officially announced by Fox Sports, will serve as an alternative to the men’s NCAA Tournament for schools that did not qualify. Two squads from the Big Ten, Big 12, and Big East conferences will receive automatic bids, all of which have television agreements with the network. The remaining teams will be at-large participants.

Taking place in Vegas’ MGM Garden Arena and MGM Arena from March 31, 2025, to April 6, the tournament is presented by AEG and will be broadcast on both Fox and FS1. The NIT has been around since 1938 and serves as a consolation tournament for teams that missed out on the NCAAs. However, some teams opted out this year in order to focus on the transfer portal.

The NIT final will be televised on ESPN and feature a matchup between Indiana State and Seton Hall on Thursday.
