A Collaboration of 200 Artists including Billie Eilish and Nicki Minaj Speak Out Against AI’s Threat

Music Industry Unites Against AI Over Artists’ Rights: A Call for Action from Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj and More

In a powerful statement, over 200 musical artists, including Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, and Camila Cabello, have published an open letter to developers of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology companies. The letter, issued by the Artist Rights Alliance (ARA), calls for a halt in the use of AI to infringe upon the rights of human artists.

The musicians express their concern about two major trends involving the illicit use of songs by AI companies: training and producing AI copycats and diluting royalty obligations through algorithms. They also mention voice cloning as a threat to their craft and warn that the unethical use of generative AI to replace human artists will devalue the entire musical ecosystem for both artists and fans.

Other notable signatories include Sam Smith, HYBE, Jon Bon Jovi, Norah Jones, Pearl Jam, REM, Chuck D
