Morningside University Expands Animal Science Minor to Prepare Students for Successful Careers in Animal Health and Welfare

Starting in fall 2024, Morningside University’s School of Agriculture and Aviation will be offering a new animal science minor for students interested in pursuing careers related to animal health and welfare. This addition to the academic catalog provides students with a broader range of career opportunities and aligns with the university’s commitment to meeting the needs of the Siouxland region through innovative academic programs.

Dr. Chris Spicer, the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Morningside University, expressed excitement about the new minor, emphasizing the university’s dedication to offering interdisciplinary study options that prepare students for successful careers. Dr. Tom Paulsen, the dean of the School of Agriculture and Aviation, highlighted the hands-on learning experiences and industry partnerships that the animal science minor will provide. The curriculum is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of animal biology, ethics, and the role of technology in animal science.

The addition of an animal science minor complements the various majors available at Morningside University, allowing students to tailor their educational experience to their career goals. This reflects recent enhancements within the Regina Roth Applied Agricultural and Food Studies Department, such as the construction of the Rosen Ag Center and Lags Farm – a 76-acre learning farm located near campus.

Prospective students interested in pursuing an animal science minor should contact Morningside University’s Admissions Office for more information on how this unique program can help them achieve their career goals. Additional details on course requirements and application information can be found on Morningside’s animal science webpage.
