Microsoft Stock Surges on Wall Street Due to Sam Altman’s Involvement
Microsoft Announces Hiring of OpenAI Co-Founder Sam Altman
Microsoft has announced the hiring of Sam Altman, co-founder and former number one of OpenAI, a start-up behind ChatGPT. The company’s CEO, Satya Nadella, announced the recruitment of several other key OpenAI employees for a new artificial intelligence research team on social media X.
Altman and Greg Brockman will join Microsoft to lead this new project within the company. According to Nadella, the mission continues and they are excited to build something new and incredible. Altman commented on Twitter that he is thrilled to be joining Microsoft and looks forward to building great things with his colleagues.
The announcement comes after a tumultuous weekend for OpenAI, with Sam Altman being fired by the board of directors following a review process. The board no longer had confidence in his ability to lead OpenAI and dismissed him from his position as CEO. Emmett Shear, former Twitch boss, was appointed as OpenAI’s interim number one shortly after Altman’s firing. Shear has accepted this position “in a matter of hours” and believes that it is an opportunity of a lifetime. He plans to launch an independent investigation within 30 days to shed light on Altman’s firing and the upheaval within the start-up.
