Matt Corral released from Patriots’ exempt/left squad list

The New England Patriots have officially parted methods with quarterback Matt Corral. On Monday, Corral was waived from the exempt/left squad list, according to the transaction wire. The Patriots had claimed Corral immediately after he was waived by the Panthers through roster reductions. Initially, Corral became the second quarterback on New England’s 53-man roster, alongside Mac Jones, as the group had previously waived Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham. Nonetheless, Corral was placed on the left squad list on September 9. Given that then, Zappe has rejoined the 53-man roster as Jones’ backup.

Corral, who was chosen in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft from Ole Miss, had to sit out his complete rookie season due to a foot injury. In addition, the Patriots announced the release of quarterback Ian Book from their practice squad. This leaves New England with Jones and Zappe as their only designated quarterbacks on the group.
