At the 2024 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System convention in New York City, Mississippi State University’s WMSV radio station won first place in the nation for Best Sports Talk Program. The three broadcasters, Elizabeth Keen, Tanner Marlar, and Aaliyan Mohammed, were recognized for their program “Maroon and White Tonight.”
The Department of Communication at Mississippi State University is proud of the students’ accomplishment. Terry Likes, head of the department, commended them for their initiative. The program was created, produced, and hosted by the students after taking a pilot class in sports announcing.
Mississippi State University had three additional finalists at the IBS convention. Olivia Beck was a finalist for Best Newscast, Amelia Middleton was recognized for Best Campus/Community News, and the MSU TV Center was a finalist for Best Commercial/Promotion.
The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System is an organization that supports college and high school media outlets. With over 3,000 entries this year, they received a lot of competition.
