Loyalsock Brothers Lead Mansfield Men in Overtime Loss: Sports News

The Mansfield Mountaineers men’s basketball team faced a tough challenge on Monday night as they took on Dominican University of New York in non-conference action. Despite the close call, the Chargers managed to pull off a narrow victory over the Mounties in an overtime battle that ended with a score of 92-88.

Saraj Ali and Idris Ali, both Loyalsock graduates, combined for an impressive 48 points on the night. Saraj Ali scored his career high 26 points and posted another double-double with ten rebounds, while Idris Ali added 22 points and grabbed five rebounds. Manir Waller also had a standout performance, picking up his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

The game was closely contested from start to finish, with both teams trading leads throughout the matchup. Dominican started off strong, taking a commanding 21-11 lead early on in the game. However, Mansfield quickly mounted a comeback, scoring a dominant 20-5 run over the next eight minutes to take a slim lead with just five minutes remaining in the half.

As halftime approached, Dominican held onto their narrow advantage by just one point going into the final half. But Mansfield turned things around with their dominance in the paint, scoring 28 points to Dominican’s 26 during that period. The Ali brothers combined to score an impressive 19 of Mansfield’s first half points.

The second half saw yet another tight battle between the two teams as they traded leads six times within five minutes. However, it was ultimately Dominican that came out on top with a slight advantage of just four points at 52-48 midway through the second half.

Despite being behind by just one possession at this point, Mansfield refused to give up and continued to fight until Saraj Ali scored six of the next seven points to tie things up at 67 with only ten minutes left in the game. In the end, it was Dominican who emerged victorious with a final score of 92-88 in overtime.
