The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge has appointed Jonathan Grimes as its new president and CEO, effective immediately. Grimes has been serving as the interim president and CEO since February, taking over for Renée Chatelain who had been in the position for eight years before announcing her departure in November 2023. The council’s board chair, Todd Sterling, expressed confidence in Grimes, stating that he is prepared to fill the shoes left by Chatelain.
Grimes has been a part of the council’s staff since June 2007, holding various roles such as events manager, chief systems officer, and executive vice president. He played a significant role in the design and construction of the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center. Currently, Grimes is involved in directing the Festival of Lights, Red Stick Revelry, and River City Jazz Masters. Additionally, he serves on the boards of the Downtown Business Association and Live After 5.
Grimes will be officially introduced as the new president and CEO at the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge’s annual meeting, which will take place at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center on May 23.
