In a daring rescue mission, Israeli forces managed to free two hostages, Fernando Marman and Louis Har, from their captors in the south of Gaza Strip. The operation involved intelligence services, elite units, and air forces, and lasted an hour and a half.
At 01:49 local time, Israeli forces raided the apartment where the hostages were being held with explosives. The three captors were immediately killed, and the special forces shielded the hostages with their bodies. The operation was coordinated by a war room of the Shin Bet’s internal intelligence services.
After the special forces raid, Hamas men opened fire from nearby buildings while Israeli air force bombed Hamas military sites and command centers. The escape was covered by Shayetet 13 commando of the navy and 7th Armored Brigade. An hour after being pulled from the apartment, Marman and Har were taken out of Rafah in armored vehicles before being put on a helicopter that took them to Israel.
Upon arrival in Israel, both men underwent medical tests and were found to be in good condition. Only one member of the rescue team was slightly injured during the operation. This successful rescue mission is only the second since the beginning of Operation Protective Edge, which began over a year ago when Israel launched an assault against Hamas militants in Gaza Strip.
The kidnapping of Marman and Har took place on October 7th during a violent attack by Hamas on Kibbutz Nir Yiyzhak where they were staying as visitors for a religious festival. Along with Clara Marman (sister of Fernando) and companion Louis Har (Gabriela’s sister), three other family members were also kidnapped: Gabriela (Fernando’s sister) and her 17-year-old daughter Mia Leimberg (Louis’ niece). However, all five hostages have now been safely reunited with their families after this daring rescue mission led by Israeli intelligence agencies.
