India’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Match Disrupted by Pro-Palestine Pitch Invader
An Australian man wearing a mask with the Palestine flag and a shirt advocating for Palestine’s liberation breached security during the World Cup match between India and Australia in Ahmedabad. This happened just before the first drinks break during India’s innings, and he managed to approach Virat Kohli before being apprehended by security personnel.
The intruder was later identified as Wayne Johnson, an Australian of Chinese-Filipino origin, who was arrested and taken to Chand Kheda Police station in Ahmedabad. The International Cricket Council (ICC) prohibits political protests at cricket games, but since Johnson is a foreign national, it remains uncertain what kind of action will be taken against him.
It is important to note that Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas have been engaged in conflict since October 7th, adding another layer of tension to this already high-pressure situation.
