Statement on Enhancing Health through Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Health Care Coalition Embraces Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to Improve Patient Outcomes

A diverse group of health care and medical organizations from across the country have come together to support policies promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the field of medicine. This coalition includes some of the most influential organizations in the industry, including the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), American Medical Association (AMA), American Osteopathic Association (AOA), Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS), National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME), and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

These organizations represent a wide range of health care professionals from various backgrounds and specialties, all committed to improving patient outcomes. Over time, they have focused on providing physicians with the best tools and evidence to ensure patients receive the highest quality care possible.

The coalition’s focus on promoting DEI aims to address longstanding disparities in the healthcare system that have been extensively documented and have a significant impact on patient health and community well-being. Without a physician workforce that can provide holistic care without barriers to entry for qualified individuals, achieving excellence in patient care is impossible.

United by their commitment to enhancing inclusive excellence, these organizations are working together to achieve the best outcomes for their members and patients alike.
