Garden City Elementary School: Breaking the Stigma and Promoting Mental Well-being on National Children’s Mental Health Day.

Garden City Elementary School is making a significant stride towards supporting the mental well-being of children in the community. On National Children’s Mental Health Day, school leaders are working to break down the stigma surrounding discussions about children’s mental health. State and local officials will meet with Dr. Miriam Delphin-Rittmon, assistant secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services, to promote open conversations and provide support for students, families, and caregivers.

The event coincides with National Mental Health Awareness Month, and it is a significant step towards supporting the mental well-being of children in Rhode Island schools. The goal is to provide resources and intervention opportunities that can positively impact students’ lives.

Dr. Delphin-Rittmon will have the opportunity to tour the new school, which includes wellness spaces that promote mental health. The school recently received a Green Ribbon award from the U.S. Department of Education for their efforts in reducing environmental impact, improving the health and wellness of students and staff, and offering sustainability education.

During the event, there will be a focus on mental health awareness, with leaders engaging in conversations with students about their well-being. By promoting open conversations about mental health issues, Garden City Elementary School is taking an important step towards creating a safe and supportive environment for all students.

This event marks an essential milestone in breaking down stigmas surrounding discussions about children’s mental health. With more schools taking steps towards promoting mental health awareness and providing resources for students struggling with mental health issues, we can expect to see positive changes in our communities’ overall well-being.
