FWC: Black Bear Encounter Forces Closure of Over a Dozen Rides at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

More than a dozen rides and attractions at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, were closed on Monday due to the presence of a black bear spotted in a tree at the theme park. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) confirmed the sighting and stated that staff were working on capturing and relocating the bear. While ride closures are not uncommon, having so many attractions closed simultaneously shortly after the park opened for the day is unusual. The rides listed as temporarily closed on the My Disney Experience app include popular attractions such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean. A full list of the closed attractions as of 11 a.m. includes Under The Sea – Journey of The Little Mermaid, Walt Disney World Railroad – Fantasyland, Walt Disney World Railroad – Frontierland, Walt Disney World Railroad – Main Street, U.S.A., Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, The Hall of Presidents, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, Pirates of the Caribbean, Swiss Family Treehouse, Country Bear Jamboree, Liberty Square Riverboat, and Tom Sawyer Island. The Magic Kingdom’s operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., according to Disney’s website. Further updates on the situation are awaited.
