Amazon is discontinuing the use of ‘Just Walk Out’ technology in grocery stores

From ‘Just Walk Out’ to ‘Amazon Dash Cart’: Enhancing the Shopping Experience at Amazon Fresh Stores in the U.S.

Amazon Fresh stores in the United States are undergoing changes to their self-service technology. The company is replacing its “Just Walk Out” technology with the new “Amazon Dash Cart”. This new technology allows customers to grab an item, scan it and place it in the cart. Payments are made automatically, allowing customers to skip the checkout line.

Jessica Martin, an Amazon spokesperson, mentioned that the company has spent time redesigning Amazon Fresh stores to offer a better shopping experience for customers. Customers had requested features like easily finding products and deals, viewing their receipts while shopping, and understanding how much money they saved. The Amazon Dash Cart aims to provide all these benefits, including skipping the checkout line.

While this change is happening at Amazon Fresh stores in the U.S., the “Just Walk Out” technology will remain at Amazon Go stores and smaller Amazon Fresh stores in the U.K. In 2021, Amazon opened its first cashier-less physical grocery store outside the U.S., located in London. Despite this change, customers can still expect a seamless and convenient shopping experience at all Amazon Fresh stores.
