From Family Recipe to Retail: Local Entrepreneur Tahjere Lewis Brings ‘Aunt Carol’s Sauce’ to Food Lion Stores

In the Hampton Roads region, Food Lion stores will carry a bottled red sauce produced by Tahjere Lewis, a Virginia Tech graduate. This news comes after Lewis successfully turned his family recipe into a commercially available product called Aunt Carol’s Sauce in 2021. As of now, Food Lion is the largest retailer to agree to carry the item, according to spokeswoman Maddie Peters. Lewis is only 24 years old and resides in Hampton Roads.

Meanwhile, two wineries in the area have announced their tasting rooms will open for the season in spring. AmRhein’s Wine Cellars in Bent Mountain will open on April 6th, while Villa Appalaccia Winery just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Patrick County surpassed expectations during its opening on March 15th. Co-owner Julie Block stated that they set records and that people are eager to get back out.

Unfortunately, Stanburn Winery in Stuart has announced that it will close after this season.
