GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State punched its ticket to the 2023 Women’s College World Series after finishing off a 2-0 sweep of No. 14 Georgia on Friday in Tallahassee, Florida, in the Super Regionals. This marks the 13th time the Seminoles have advanced to the WCWS.
No. 3 Florida State will face No. 6 Oklahoma State next week at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. The WCWS begins June 1.
In Thursday night’s Game One, FSU made a statement 8-1 win over the Bulldogs. Georgia took an early, 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Seminoles scored eight unanswered runs – four in the third inning and another four in the fifth – to take the first game.
Kathryn Sandercock matched the record for the most appearances in Seminole history (179) and pushed her season record to 29-3. Kaley Mudge led FSU with three hits and three RBIs on a nine-hit night.
In Game Two on Friday, the Seminoles grinded out a 4-2 victory, bolstered by a three-run third inning. Kalei Harding and Hallie Wacaser each posted a pair of hits with Harding recording a pair of RBIs.
Mack Leonard got the win in the circle, striking out four batters and allowing one run on two hits. Sandercock set the record for most appearances on Friday with her 180th appearance in the circle to secure her ninth save – the second-most in the NCAA.
The Seminoles are 108-75 all-time in the NCAA Tournament in their 35th appearance.
