Exploring the Unmet Health Needs of Older Prison Inmates: Dr. Susan Loeb’s ‘Just Care’ Lecture at URI College of Nursing

The Rhode Island University College of Nursing is excited to announce its Spring Distinguished Lecture series, featuring Dr. Susan Loeb from Pennsylvania State University’s Ross & Carol Nese College of Nursing. Dr. Loeb will be delivering a lecture titled “Enhancing Care of Older Adults in Prison: Research and Development of Just Care.”

The lecture is set to take place on Wednesday, May 1 at 5 p.m., and will be held in-person at the Rhode Island Nursing Education Center in Providence. Prior to the lecture, attendees can meet with Dr. Loeb at a reception in the third-floor River Lounge at 4 p.m.

Dr. Loeb is an accomplished researcher and educator with extensive experience in end-of-life care and the health of prison inmates. She has been a tenured professor at Pennsylvania State University since 2004, where she also serves as the director of the college’s Ph.D. program. Her research focuses on improving geriatric care for older prison inmates with chronic health conditions, particularly as they approach the end of their lives.

Dr. Loeb has received funding from the National Institutes of Health for multiple studies aimed at addressing unique challenges faced by older inmates in correctional facilities, such as restrictive environments and dormitory living arrangements. Through her work, she aims to enhance care for this vulnerable population and ensure that they receive just care throughout their lives.

The URI College of Nursing regularly hosts its Distinguished Lecture Series each semester, inviting prominent figures in the field of nursing to share their expertise with students, faculty, and members of the community
