The Swedes’ Urban Legend: Can the Finns Make It a Reality?

Electric Future: Gunnar Dackevall and E-Car Expo Drive toward a Saab Revolution

Finland is set to host a major electric car event, and its founder Gunnar Dackevall has a vision for the future of electric cars in the region. He believes that electric cars should be built en masse in Finland, and he sees a way for the country to help save a classic brand.

Dackevall’s event, which is known as E-Car Expo, aims to be Europe’s largest electric car event. He presented his vision to HS in advance and estimated that Finns could help electrify Saab. Dackevall believes that it would be very Scandinavian if Finland were to take on this challenge.

Last spring, Nevs announced that it was going into “hibernation” and leaving Saab’s iconic Trollhättan factory. The Emily project was then bought by a Canadian startup who wanted to build a car in Trollhättan, but Dackevall thinks Uusellakaupunki would have better opportunities. Valmet Automotive’s car factory in Uusikaupunki is currently operating at full capacity after retiring two small electric car brands. Dackevall believes that the “electric Saab” should be built there and that it is crucial for the electrification of passenger car traffic.

Dackevall’s fate with Emily’s prototype was intertwined when it was on display at his fair in Gothenburg last December. However, there are currently no concrete plans for manufacturing in Finland yet. Dackevall encourages Finland to follow Denmark, which he believes is perfect for electric cars due to its lack of hills and short distances. He also believes that electric kilometers are cheaper to travel than traditional ones.

Negotiations are ongoing regarding which cars will be showcased at Dackevall’s event in Helsinki, and the possibility of showcasing an electric Saab is still open although there has been no formal announcement regarding manufacturing the Emily GT yet.

Overall, Gunnar Dackevall has a bold vision for the future of electric cars in Finland and beyond, and his E-Car Expo event promises to be an exciting showcase of innovation and progress in this rapidly growing field.
